Pros

They are very flexible Most of the staff are amazing

Cons

The company believes in no departments, every competent member of staff knows this is stupid. Managers get employed almost entirely on nepotism alone, it's who you know not what you know No HR means individuals can get promotions despite multiple grievances raised against them. If you want to advance in this company be prepared to suck up as much as you can bare

Hello, thanks for leaving your feedback. We really do appreciate you taking the time to write this. Thank you for sharing that you’ve had good experiences around management being flexible and that our staff are great to work alongside. We really do believe in a culture where your personality isn’t left at the door and this then allows people to want to be able to be themselves at work and hopefully enjoy it. In regards to your comments around recruiting management, we hold a formal process for all positions. Through this discovery day whether that be for a Team Leader or Operations Manager, all candidates are interviewed and scored in a process by non-biased managers who manage in other offices or sites. I want to be very honest and transparent here in stating we absolutely do have HR here at Octopus, each and every manager is your HR team. We believe having your management team as your HR means they know more about you and can support you in a more personal way, opposed to a team that doesn't see your day to day and understand the impact you have on the business, making high level decisions for you. In regards to your specific comment around grievances raised against members, without further context or information this is really hard for me to understand the situation. I would like a chance to speak about this situation in more detail to understand fully what this means to you. I am really sorry you feel like you are not heard, we really do value feedback and we can’t make changes or improvements without it. We would like a chance to change this, please do reach out to myself or Sam either on slack or by email at Fay.Olner@octoenergy.com / Sam.Winter@octoenergy.com or if you don’t feel comfortable coming to either of us, you can speak to any TL/OM or Head of Operations and they will be able to discuss how we can support. Kind regards, Fay Olner, Head of Operations

Pros

Good uniform, ok tools, opportunity to upskill to EV work

Cons

Once completed EV work it’s revealed it is not profitable. So have to undertake metering work also as two EV installs in 1 day is nigh on impossible, sometimes impossible to do metering work also on top of EV. Electric van in rural area not much charging options and 50kw at a maximum. Lead to believe that the role was all about customer service leaving neat and tidy installations with time factored in for this which does not seem to be the case. Exceptionally high standards of work required, safety/compliance runs the show here with unrealistic levels of neat installations which you are not given time for in your day.

Hi there, Thanks for leaving your review - receiving honest feedback allows us to constantly improve our ways of working, so it's appreciated. You are right, we do look for both high quality installs, and efficiency of work - a standard EV charger install (and we do communicate with the customer beforehand so we should in most cases know its complexity up front) takes between 2 to 4 hours - so it’s not unreasonable for two standard installations that are nearby to eachother to be completed in a day. If the job's different when you arrive (we all appreciate the frustration with a surprise lengthy cable run, for example) then we will of course rearrange other work. I appreciate you're saying you live in an area where there might be more travel and even 2 jobs a day can sometimes be difficult - genuinely very happy to have a chat directly so please do slack me (John Szymik) or my team and see how we can help.
