Pros

They will take people directly from school

Cons

Management is very condescending and disrespectful. They expect you to put in extra hours that you are not being paid for. I was told numerous times that if I did not meet my submittal goals I would lose my job. I felt so much pressure that I would often eat lunch at my desk and stay an hour late everyday. The time you put in does not matter, only metrics does at this company. I will never work for another company like this again.

Pros

Good opportunity to learn technology. Commission structure is generous. Flexibility. Training program is good.

Cons

Getting support is really hard. Constantly changing direction in where they want you to go. False promises of receiving commission on work you do. (Get everything in writing) Too many layers of management and not enough transparency at a branch level. No work life balance. If you take PTO, they will still call/ping/email and text you.

Pros

They recently came out with a training program that teaches some basics on recruiting. The program teaches you how to review resumes, negotiate salaries, conduct interviews etc. However, many of the branches and Recruiters at Modis are very stuck in their old school techniques, and very little of the new training was implemented at the branch level. Another pro: They also hire people without any real recruiting experience, so it is a great way to get your foot intro the industry.

Cons

You are hired with the promise of unlimited commission, and that any "smart" person will be making six figures by the end of their first or second year. This is why they get away with having the lowest base salary out of any staffing agency out there. However, the commission structure is tiered in a way that you make barely any commission on your first few hires. The only way to get commission is by low balling the rates of the candidates who you hire (but this is the case with any staffing agency). Also, the software that they use is ridiculous. For being an IT staffing agency, you think we could have hired better software engineers to develop our own ATS. The one we have is constantly breaking down, and cannot handle a search string of more than 4 words. Once you enter information into it, you cannot edit or delete it. Thus, a lot of the info in there is inaccurate and outdated. Some of the resumes in there were input 10-20 years ago! And management will still tell you to "give them a call in case they're back on the job market." An incredible waste of time. I found that Modis was also very metrics driven. The quantity of calls made or emails sent was more important than taking the time to find a genuinely qualified candidate. The fact that they even make you cold call is ridiculous. Many candidates who I tried cold calling would get angry that I was calling them in the middle of work, but Modis still insists that this is the most effective way to get in touch with people? Also, at the SF branch specifically, our management was not good. They gave precedence to a lot of the older recruiters because they brought in the most commission for the branch. Multiple times I had candidates and placements stolen from me, only to be told "well, if it makes the branch money, then why should I care?" They also never followed up with anything and couldn't keep a calendar invite to save their lives. A bunch of people began to quit recently, and management would pull us remaining employees into an office for one-on-one convos, and pretend to be really chummy with us, then ask us if we were interviewing elsewhere, and pump us for information on whether our friends/coworkers were interviewing. Super unprofessional. They are also very budget conscious, and they took away our christmas party last year because they said we weren't going to meet budget. They also said no more happy hours or office expenses. However, the mangers continued to go out to lunch and on "client meetings" which were undoubtedly charged to the company credit card.
