Pros

In a busy urban environment, almost immediate bookings and steady clientele They provide supplies and do all the booking, scheduling and selling No product sales required, just a suggested # of add-on service bookings The store I worked at had hydraulic tables

Cons

Some equipment was old and creaky and the manager or owners were reluctant to replace or to order supplies. No support for getting CEUs. Low starting salary. Leadership was weak, very high-schoolish in their way of approaching things.

Pros

If you are a teenager and want to make more than minimum wage while you work part time and go to school or if you are interested in learning more about Massage Therapy.

Cons

No benefits for full time employees at the front desk. No paid time off. No paid sick days. No health benefits. No set schedule so the clinic expects you to be available ALL of the time. When you are sick management does not cover your shift, you have to get it covered yourself and since your other employees either hate it there, or aren't allowed to work overtime, this is impossible. This job requires an extremely high tolerance for multi-tasking, high pressure sales, and customer complaints. Management is often young and immature. Gossip runs rampant and management is not trained to deal with their employees effectively. People retain their jobs based on whether they are liked or not liked by the other girls and the immature management. (Making gossip even more important in the mix!) Management abuse their power by sitting in the office goofing around on facebook and the internet or texting while other employees pick up their slack. For some reason, the assistant managers are usually the worst. Twenty-something girls with no management experience who act like are straight out of the movie "Mean Girls." Commission scale for memberships sold is very, very, very LOW. Since this is clearly not an appropriate job for grown ups, the company hires young girls- the turnover is high, the computer system is not easy to learn (making it annoying to work with so many new people so much of the time) and the sales expectations are not realistic. Massage therapists are unhappy, underpaid, and under tipped. All in all, a pool of gossip and negativity. Avoid at all costs.
