Pros

Lenovo makes good products. The base compensation package is ok but they have a good bonus program if you can get on your boss's good side long enough to earn one. Some managers allow for flexible schedules.

Cons

Terrible corporate structure. I had 9 bosses in 5 years due to almost constant restructuring. Impossible to develop rapport with coworkers and management. In 3 consecutive years my role was outsourced to China and I was forced to search for another position. There is a constant fear of layoffs. Promotions are nonexistent. Lots of evening conference calls to China.

Pros

Good pay for the Morrisville, NC, area. Great bonuses.

Cons

Leadership is lacking. Decisions are often made with little to no analysis. Most global decisions are being forced on the entire company by the China region, with no concern for the effects on other markets. This has proven to be an extremely damaging strategy resulting in teams that are starving for resources, budgets, and work-life balance. No long term opportunity for advancement unless you're a Chinese national.

Pros

These guys are going places, no doubt. My belief is Lenovo's operational overhaul over the last 5 years has powered their marketplace success. They are a lean, mean fighting machine with a clear strategy integrated well into the daily execution of the business. Decisions are made quickly, acted on quickly, and seen through to completion. Lenovo will be the #1 PC company within 5 years, I'm sure. It's a fantastic place to cut your teeth and see how a well-oiled Fortune 500 company runs. Their leanness allows one to see all ends of the company, which is a rarity in most +$20B firms.

Cons

That said, it is still after all the PC industry they are battling in where margins are horrendous. Consequently, squeezing blood from the stone has material impacts on the workforce - especially those who work in non-Low Cost Jurisdictions. Obviously then, the employee base in North America & Western Europe is skeleton thin and the associated pressures apply. Wages are compressed in accordance with the aforementioned margin pressures, however with their record profits these past several quarters, one wonders what share of the profit the executive team is enjoying. Personnel in many ways are seen as a necessary evil and certainly regarded as replaceable. You won't find anything in their Lenovo Way culture document specifying the company's responsibility to, or appreciation for, the workforce. Quite conversely, it is the opposite - what the employee's duty is to the company.
