Pros

Some of the following were what I would consider to be perks in this job: - Compensation potential. This was a commission based job where you could fall back on your hourly rate if you did not break your quota. So there was a high earning potential if you put in the work. - The job environment was decent and gave access to perks such as a no cost membership to employees.

Cons

- High turnover rate with management and employees. This usually was caused by clashing of heads between co-workers and outrageous goals set forth by the upper levels of management which gave rise to either termination or quitting. - Management would expect you to work outside of your 8-9 hour shift no matter what. If you had no other pressing matters then you could stay longer. - In terms of their "marketing", you were solely in charge of that. If a "member appreciation day" was coming up, as an individual you would have to prepare to throw a party type atmosphere which sometime resulted in money out of pocket that was never reimbursed. - Ridiculous goals were sent down to individual clubs which would require an average of 40-60 calls a day, 10-12 new contacts a day, 6-8 appointments for on the day and the next day you work and finally 2-3 memberships a day. These goals can remain with a club in an area where the resources of new potential members has been tapped and bled dry. - There is definitely a "cut-throat" atmosphere in this job where even management will go behind your back to make a sale. Morals are thrown completely out the window. Although it is not always the case, it did seem like a frequent problem. - Management forced a "do whatever it takes to get the sale" type attitude in training and on a daily basis which leads to blame if a customer walks out without a membership. Although it takes some further time and effort to get a new customer to commit to improving their health, there is definitely a certain line that should not be crossed.

Pros

Corporate office in Irvine, CA has a good culture and the people are very friendly and you will learn a lot in the IT department. The IT department is a good fan of Microsoft products so you will have the opportunity to work on the latest Microsoft technology.

Cons

If you don't care about 401k, then work for LA Fitness. The company does not have 401K plan at all for their corporate employees and they have hard time attracting and retaining good employees because most candidates do care about 401k and they end up leaving the company. The company has high turnover due to lack of good benefits. All corporate employees are on hourly wages so they have to punch in / punch out. The company gives only 1 week vacation a year which is below the average in USA. The company gives only 6 paid holidays and those holidays are not paid if they fall on the weekend. The company does not give annual review. The company does not give annual pay raise at all so do not expect to get 2% pay raise. The hourly wage that you accept when they offer you the job will remain the same for years and most likely will not go up. Remember that you will be punching in / punching out because you will be on hourly wage not salary even if you are a professional working for corporate office

Pros

You get a free membership. Also immediate coworkers were cool but that's of course will vary based on location.

Cons

I was flat out lied to about payment. I was told I was being hired for Assistant Personal Training Director and would just have a "30 day training period". What that actually meant was that I was actually starting as a PTC (not the job I applied for) until I could basically prove myself worthy. Okay, would have been good to know but I will live. I find that about 2 weeks into the job tat not only have the bonuses been lowered from what I was told in my interview (I have a hard time believing that they were unaware of thus when hiring me), but also that my "base pay" was actually hourly minimum wage (again, fine but this was different from what I was told there would be a set base in my Interview). They also "forgot" to tell me that commission doesnt even begin to kick in until you've basically hit your minimum amount to bonus anyway. So basically, if you dont hit bonus, you're making $7.25/hour. That's it. The job is literally going around in the floor bothering people to buy training. And then watching your bosses lie to customers to get them to sign up, and then having to deal with their wrath. There is also NO sense of work life balance, as I frequently get calls and texts from my boss past 9 p.m. and on weekends (which I work most of anyway). Overall, they will day whatever they can to get you in the job and then leave you to fend for yourself. I have worked in gyms for years. I get it. But this is a terrible way to run business. Come to terms with the fact that this will be a stepping stone to gain sales experience, or run in the opposite direction.
