IT / Information Services leaves a lot to be desired
Pros
Corporate leadership at the company is very forward thinking and open to ideas. Company with great potential for growth. In spite of great odds, the company has posted impressive performance. Great communication all over from top leadership to the entire workforce. Incredibly helpful and prompt human resources team.
Cons
The absence of leadership in IS. There are only 3-4 people who have any say in anything. To say the focus is narrow would be an understatement. Too many fragmented systems which break down every now and then. This seems to just go the other direction, creating nightmare for the support teams maintaining them. Rather than think IS Strategy sensibly, the leadership is mired in discussing individual defects pretending to know each procedure and function in depth. The meetings are endless, and you end up with catching up to work at the end of the day. If senior leaders analyze the defects, you imagine what would the analysts have to do. You can only imagine the trust in managers and analysts would only be low. Why would you work where opinions are not respected, and you are only given orders to march a specific way. There is a lot that the IT can do to play a strategic partner with the business. The fill whats empty, empty whats full; and scratch where it itches 'strategy' should stop, if they need to make significant strides in building this relationship.
