Pros

Free membership Lots of experience about how large companies operate First hand experience of bullying from management, from PT manager through to the Manager of the whole gym Both above are pro's because it will teach you valuable life lessons Lots of great members

Cons

I only have a limited time to write this so I'll keep it brief. - The management of the company force targets to the nth degree causing a multitude of issues and unfair situations for "normal" employees. - Paid a low rate in comparison to the rate charged to a client, in comparison to other gyms. -weekly/ monthly targets determine pay grades. Corners are cut by each level of management to reduce the delivered hours in order to shave the payroll costs down. -Internal audit team review hours delivered and regularly penalize trainers who adhere to the rules but whose managers have failed to do their sign off, no allowance for the fact that we chase them regularly to do this. -Holiday pay. This is based on hours delivered which we know are cut already. however when it comes to calculating holiday pay extensive effort is made to reduce the hours further. -Upon leaving (after 9 years at Virgin and a very profitable time for them as lead PT in my gym) i handed my notice in, worked my 4 weeks and thought my exit went well. I return a couple of weeks later to see that management had circulated confidential correspondence regarding my exit. -I was told that my holiday pay will be in the next months pay. Its been months now and after chasing weekly i was told i wont be entitled to any, now i dont get a reply from head office even.

Pros

The best things about working for this overated company is the staff and the fact that it's in a gym.

Cons

The pay is minimum wage. There is no prettying it up, its awful for the amount of work they expect you to do. You will be expected to teach classes (for free) clean sweaty machines and floors, write programmes for members amongst other things. Do not expect ANY support from management with issues at work... It's just awful. I had alot of issues with pay and travel, many promises were made and not kept. Terrible. Will be quitting ASAP and probably will just get a job as a dustman, as it would probably be the same with better pay.

Pros

Free gym membership for you and one other.

Cons

Poor pay. Poor management. Discrimination. Poor health and safety. Lack of actual qualified and experienced staff. No rewards or praise while managers who sit and do nothing get rewarded with paid lunches and trips away. Managers assaulting staff members and withholding wages. Poor training. Any additional courses you wish to go on, you must pay for out your own pocket.
