Pros

You get a free gym membership for yourself and one nominated friend usable at clubs within your bracket and below. I've been with the company just under a year and am still waiting on my staff discount card via Virgin Tribe so can't comment on the discounts that entails.

Cons

Only pay lifeguards £6.50 in central London. They claim competitive pay but that is awful as LG is a trained role usually £7-£10. Also make you do training monthly but this is unpaid (not industry standard) Often request you to come in to do forms or other tasks but these hours are unpaid Management are pot luck - some clubs are great others are useless. They say they invest in their staff but there needs to be better management and not just those who are sycophantic to superiors but useless. Staff turnover is so high for a reason. Awful hours - If you're unlucky in your club they make you do an 8 hour shift with breaks taken in 15 minute increments so you never have a chance to do anything however at other clubs management does not manage staff so the take 1.5 hours daily. Health and safety not always great. Considering what the role of a lifeguard is one is often left on poolside for far too long. Would not recommend and still use zero hour contracts - have no qualms about cancelling your shifts the night before but your contract states you can't get another job in the leisure industry whilst with them.

Pros

Gym membership, and people, although very short staffed

Cons

I am of an age when I people got paid extra for working unsociable hours, time and a half for the weekends and evenings. Well Virgin active pay the lowest wages whether you start at 7 am on a Sunday or during the week. For a student working hard leaving the house at 5.45 am to get to work, paying £40 a week to travel, taking home just over £400 a month is s--t. Angry mother
