Pros

Free pair of eyeglasses every year with most any options you wanted. Good insurance including infertility coverage.

Cons

You are on your feet all day which wasn't a problem as a young person, but after over 15 years with the company things change. As a seasoned certified optician I was required 2-3 nights a week and 8 weekends in a row while the newer opticians had every other weekend off. Was repeatedly told hat I was " too valuable in the position I was in" as a very good optician, and then told I could not receive pay increases, and was kept off the sales floor because I was too valuable in a dispensing position. 1 year apprentices were earning the same or more as I was after 15 years certified.

Pros

50% off prescription sun and opthalmic - only good if you actually wear glasses. GM's do have great hours working mostly days and only 8 hour shifts rather than the standard in retail of 9. New hires immediately qualify for STATS.

Cons

Not enough support by RGM and VP with ensuring the stores are staffed with enough opticians. Opticians have been utilized as sales associates for far to long - and now the upper management want them to simply be opticians. That would be fine however there are not enough hours to give out to eyewear consultants and the majority of the opticians are hired as FT therefore GM's have no option but to utilize opticians as sales associates. Far too many conference calls and meetings which inhibit the GM from being in a floor lead role which is expected of them. RGM expects GM's to be responding to far too many emails throughout the day which in turn takes away from floor leadership. Benefit entitlement after 3 months - yet most employees have to seek out the information as no enrolment forms or benefit information is sent to the employees at the 3 month mark.
