Pros

There was a good amount of flexibility. Ability to be creative in tailoring workouts to your clients needs.

Cons

System for booking sessions did not tie into an alert system. You had to call the front desk to find out if you had a session. If someone books a Saturday morning session on Friday night you have no way of knowing. I had occasions where I'd get booked for just one session, which was half an hour. At a pay rate of $12 an hour, it equated to $6 - tax. So maybe I made $4. It was not worth my time or my travel.

Pros

Free membership, easy to network, fitness lifestyle. Like minded people you work with. Some gyms have a great member community and some are ridden with grouchy old people or roid ragers

Cons

Being held accountable for sales even though I was not their direct supervisor. Gms lying to customers and then I got to deal with them after the fact when they realize they've been decieved. Pay is $13 + commission. Busier clubs you make more. After taxes I brought home about 1200 a paycheck which seems nice until you factor in I was working 24/7. Calling the gym at 5am to make sure employees were there. Would gets calls about the lifeguards not showing up every morning. Constantly worried about getting fired no matter how long you've been there or what position. Turn over rate was about 1 new hire/fire a week PER DEPARTMENT. Expected to have 8 arms to be able to enter work orders, deal with customers, doing interviews, doing audits, making the schedule for 3 different departments on top of making 40 to 60 phone calls per an hour. Was told directly to not hire anyone disabled out of fear from a lawsuit. Ended up taking a position managing at Golds gym with much higher pay and less responsibility. No fridge, microwave, or coffee pot. No break room. Couldn't eat in the gym. If I brought lunch I had to eat it in my car and it couldn't be anything perishable. How am I supposed to be healthy and represent a gym when I'm limited to fast food or bologna sandwichs?? This is the reason so many oms gain weight instead of lose it !! I thought working at a gym would help me get in shape and destress. Instead I worked off less than a few hours of sleep a night and gaining nearly 40 pounds in the 2 years I've been with the company. The worst part is I was exercising 6 days a week!!! AVOID! no position here is worth it
