Pros

- Opportunity to work with diverse clients cross territory - Great for networking and everyone is super friendly - Great support for mental health

Cons

- Huge pay discrepancy across Kraken for employees of similar career history/role - No chain of feedback that is structured - Very much a "who knows who" culture - No clear structure for role targets or progression - Training for the role is not fully relevant to actual role responsibilities and expectations

Thank you for your feedback it's really valuable to ensure that we can continue to get better as a business and as a team. As a growing company there are always topics that are still evolving. I have positive news in that quite a few of the recommendations you've made are already in place. This includes performance pay structure, our buddy system for our new joiners and our evolving training materials. However, it's clear that we can improve in communicating these. Please do get in touch with your manager to find out more and in the meantime I'll work to communicate more broadly. In terms of feedback and development, we have progression routes in place for the delivery team but career development is always unique for individuals! We've always prided ourselves on having squiggly line careers where progression is based on your skills and how you would like to grow, whilst feedback is something that every person wants delivered differently. I really encourage you to talk with your manager to be clear on how you would like to receive feedback and to have a constructive conversation about what route you'd like your career to take. I promise, you we only want to make this happen for you! You can also feel free to reach out to me (Ruby Mitchell) on this topic would be happy to talk through.

Pros

Authentic vision to accelerate the green energy transition. Fabulous product and great Tech. Lovely people and a genuinely innovative and empowering culture. Ability to create your own role and develop personally is in your hands and the doors are wide open.

Cons

Gender pay gap. Still quite a lot of senior men leading things, although they are all generally progressive thinkers. Very little in the way of structure or process - which is deliberate, but as the company grows creates a lot of unintentional duplication. And it can mean that personality can be a factor in who is visible or seen as successful.

Pros

Flexible work hours, unlimited leave, generally a good amount of autonomy over how to solve a problem although that seems to be reducing. Some really great engineers which makes it a fun place to work for the day-to-day and a good place to learn.

Cons

This company used to have moral and ethical principles, and prided itself on not selling its software to clients that weren't aligned with these. That has gone out of the window. Senior leadership claim we must compromise for the big green dent, but it really (as so often) appears to be all about the money. The current leadership is also noticeably starting to be more top down, and starting to ask us to cut corners to handle the issue that they have oversold and can now not deliver and to make the figures look better for a likely IPO.

Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. It’s great to hear that you value the flexibility, autonomy and the calibre of engineers here, that day-to-day learning and collaboration is something we’re really proud of, and we know how important it is to protect that environment as we grow. On your concerns around client alignment and leadership direction, I want to acknowledge that growth inevitably brings tougher decisions and more complexity. Our ambition to make a meaningful impact in the energy space hasn’t changed, even as we scale. Balancing commercial realities with long-term principles isn’t always simple, but it’s something leadership discusses carefully and regularly - we have recently had great discussions at our AMA's around this and I would encourage you to give these a watch if you haven't had the chance too yet! We also recognise that as we take on more customers and expand into new markets, clarity and sustainable delivery matter. Looking after all of our staff, including engineers, and maintaining high standards is critical to long-term success - it’s not something we take lightly. If you’d be open to sharing more about your experience or specific concerns, I’d genuinely welcome the conversation. Thanks again, Olivia Roberts olivia.roberts@kraken.tech
