Pros

-One of the few areas where Kraken is actually making a green dent -Decent DevEx, uses modern programming languages and tooling -People are nice and helpful -Low on bureaucracy, get sh*t done culture -decent WLB -regular engineers have it quite good

Cons

-Senior leadership not great at scaling teams & processes -Internally promoted leadership on management track are really unqualified. I've seen many promotions over the years and one can go from mid level to senior, then within half a year go to team lead without demonstrable results, and within another year become head of engineering again without having demonstrable results. Externally hired people are much better, whereas internally promoted leadership are a joke. -Product vision lacking, and is mainly reactive. Quite surprising we were able to make it this far -Kraken says they're making a big green dent but most of what they do is simply CRM

Great company with lots of potential and ambitious work. Great benefits and flexible arrangements.

Cons

Chaotic as we're approaching hyper growth and are scaling in new markets/with new customers. Out of touch management Bad internal recruitment and policies

Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. It’s great to hear you see the ambition and potential at Kraken, and that you’ve found the flexibility and benefits valuable; those are core to how we work and something we’re proud to offer. As we continue to grow at pace and expand into new markets, we know things can feel fast-moving - but we’re focused on scaling in a way that stays true to the culture that got us here. I’d be really interested in hearing more about your experience with internal recruitment and policies, and what you'd like to see done differently - please don’t hesitate to reach out directly. Thanks again, Olivia Roberts

Pros

Working for a fast growing company

Cons

Bias of manager on promotions and work is based on whom they like. Salary is varied across the team, you will have team members paid £20K more doing the same work. Men are always put forward for promotions because they are a lot more vocal about it than women.

Thanks for your feedback! I am sorry to hear this perception of the team and would really encourage you to raise these concerns with your manager or myself (Ruby). Having a wider view of the team, the last two points I can confidently challenge. Promotion and work assignment is given to people that managers are impressed by. This is a reality in all workplaces, but we have structured performance reviews and 360 degree feedback rounds available for all to make sure promotions are based on performance. Equally, senior leaders keep an ongoing eye on the total talent pool to make sure people are given opportunities to be challenged when new projects come up. If you do feel you or a colleague has been overlooked, please do not hesitate to raise it with your manager, me or another leader in the client delivery community so we can shine a light on any potential blind spots and importantly ensure you're getting the right support and development in your role.
