Pros

It is very hard to identify any positives in this firm. It is bureaucratic, top-heavy and careers can be sabotaged at the whim of a senior manager.

Cons

I thought I was just working in a particularly poisonous department as it had around 30% of the people employed there on long-term stress leave. Dialling into a divisional conference call being run by the head of division sadly proved that I was mistaken. Any speaker on the call that were not able to instantly respond to demanding questions were shouted & sworn at, and generally demeaned. This is completely unacceptable, irrespective of cultural clashes.

Pros

Pay is excellent and generally above market (except at Associate level). With a few exceptions of course, excellent people, very smart and driven, and some very good managers. Outstanding in house education program. Generally meritocratic, although not without some politics. Inspiring CEO.

Cons

Quite a few Executive Directors (just below Managing Directors) appear to have flat-lined and can make weak, troublesome managers who often generate unnecessary work. Evidence of true "mobility" limited, although it receives much lip service. Generally, it's investment banking, so it's not devoid of a culture of fear and stress.
