Pros

I think the pay is pretty good for what you do. Sometimes it's better than others (tips). I love that they do strictly haircuts, that's the main reason I work there, because I love doing haircuts. I like most of the customers...talking, getting to know them, making them feel good. And I like the other stylists (most of the time).

Cons

The management is a big mess. Poor communication, disrespect for employees...treat them like children, never ask for input on how things can be better...they just ignore you, stylists are always complaining...especially about the schedule (you will never know when you have to work....hard to make plans) Too much is expected of the shop manager which makes the shop run very inefficiently. Stylists are threatened with suspension if their haircut time is too high or their non-cut time is too high...even though these numbers are not always a true reflection of what is happening in the salon.

Pros

Busy the day goes fast and no clientel required. Easy, walk in and go. Not much bending over the sink.

Cons

Wear and tear on tools and no tool allowance, relying on tips and yet clientel is not aware of this, very high production and assembly line and feeling like a machine making someone else rich. Feels like slave labour. Everything is done by the computer and numbers, not much personal flexibility for scheduling etc. Very hard on the joints and body, lots of tendon problems and joint problems. Often over 20 haircuts in a 7 or 8 hour shift. Paid 9.75 per hour and have to listen to clients talk about what a great deal they are getting but clients dont understand that that is because the stylists get paid so little. Feeling USED and no artistic freedom or expression, very very assembly line.

Pros

-Depending on your franchiser, a few paid holidays. -You can accumulate PTO.

Cons

-Absentee franchisers -Employee turnover is ridiculously high, regardless of incentives and hourly pay. The beauty industry within itself is unfortunately just like that. -Long hours, not your typical 9-5 work week -Weekends are required depending on staffing. -Demographic for clientele is typically undesirable, and tips are not guaranteed, which can make or break if you can afford groceries for the week. -Company higher ups love to ask for better ways to make their employees happy, but when it's not your typical "Pizza Party" answer, they'll laugh in your face.
