Pros

Paid by the hour so there’s a guaranteed wage. Friendly environment. They offer more then minimum wage to start.

Cons

Highly stressful work days. Paid by the hour to do 2.5 haircuts per-hour to make company quota. That’s each client in and out your chair with a timed haircut of 13-15 minutes, and selling them product out the door. They seem under staffed all the time and don’t put enough people on the floor during busy weekends, puting more stress under employees. Two people on a busy day not allowing for lunches or being able to go to a bank to cash in change. There’s a lot of company policy’s and dress codes and employee rules. It’s above minimum wage, however I can go up the street and make four dollars more an hour at McDonald’s without a diploma. This is a state license required job that we have to pay to go to school for. I am extremely disappointed in this company in particular, you would think for a state license required job in a multi million dollar corporation that runs nationwide would pay they’re employees just a little more and have more people on hand to accommodate less stressful busy times.

Pros

I thought it would supplement my income, and does somewhat. However, 2 hours in a full service high end salon with 1 client you have to do 30 haircuts in 7-8 hours at great clips to earn the same dollar amount. I don’t like clients that smell bad, don’t keep their hair clean, and many have scalp conditions that require a doctor to handle. I’m a cutting machine in this place. $2-$3 tip per client. You will burn out fast!

Cons

Why would I go to Great Clips school when I have been trained by the best of the best in the industry??? Terrible scalp conditions on these clients, the smell bad. I have higher expectations of the industry and people.

Pros

Can be okay money. A lot of staff has been there for a long time, not for crappy hourly pay, but because choosing the right location can mean a lot of tips!

Cons

I went to a manager meeting where corporate suggested we get on glassdoor now and leave a positive review for recruiting. Not an honest review, but a positive. Owners are different, mine pick and choose who will succeed. They throw stylists into management with just minimal training without letting it be known what their expectations are, then blame the manager for EVERYTHING! Their communication is waaaay jacked up.
