Pros

nice stylists, decent tips, ok

Cons

They asked me to put my two weeks in at Kohls, so I did and told me I would start the first week of may, went to orientation on April 29th, but never signed any papers or anything. Thought it was weird, but she told me I'd be on the salon floor the next day but before I could work I had to get new Clippers and some storage containers, so I went out and spent $200 for all the supplies I needed, so I started the next day, the stylists were all super nice and helpful while the manager was no where to be found, anyways I worked for them for two days and the manager had another employee. Not a manager, call me today to inform me they were letting me go because I couldn't meet quotas, and to come back when I was faster, so they made me quit, my job and waste a bunch of money and promised training, I never received

Pros

Great place to start building skills especially if you are right out of beauty school. Good training program. No clients needed.

Cons

Must work fast. Eat before shift, may work long hours without a break. Not enough time with clients. To increase pay you have to cut n retail effectively in 15 min or less

Salon Manager and stylist

Pros

Instant clientele. Hourly pay plus commission and product bonus. Tips range from $25-$100 a day. Paid holidays and vacation for full time employees. 401k plan for full time employees. Great salon environment and team atmosphere. Some paid training but would like a little more diversity. You get to meet all types of people from all walks of life.

Cons

Schedules can make work life balance hard because it requires nights and weekends and most holidays we are open but we do get paid well for working them. Holidays should be paid off days. There needs to be more diversity in the ongoing training as far as cutting techniques go. Balancing floor and admin time can be a challenge in a busy salon when floor hours are needed it can be difficult to complete managerial duties. Micro managing can also make doing some things harder as you have to wait for approval on most things.
