Even when I started, there was always an air of misogyny from Corporate Leadership and a lack of diversity in leadership roles. If you're not an Italian male, you can expect to hit the glass ceiling pretty quickly. But this absolutely exploded once the new leadership took over. I have seen countless unqualified people be promoted or hired for senior and executive roles over far more qualified and capable tenured employees. (Is it a coincidence that the vast vast majority of those promotions were given to Italian Men?).
In addition to misogyny (and also racism), the new ownership (Investindustrial) has no care for quality (either of product, or quality of life for their employees) and definitely has the philosophy of "burn 'em and churn 'em". Which I guess is par for the course for a venture capitalist firm. Nearly everyone from before the takeover has since left, myself included.
They eliminated so many roles (also further narrowing the leadership pool), and just expect those remaining to take on the workload of at least 1-2 other managers with no increase in pay.
They also have changed the bonus structure multiple times (once over halfway through the year) in what I believe are attempts to make it unattainable so they do not have to payout bonuses and can keep more of the profit.
It is a complete boy's club and they will protect each other at all costs. As mentioned, although the vast majority of my direct coworkers were amazing, there were definitely some problematic issues I saw first hand. Like the HRBP beginning to date an hourly employee at the store and then the hourly employee then receives a promotion for which they do not have experience, and are paid more than a Latina Woman in that same position with years of experience.
There was also a store director who nearly every person and senior manager in the store brought concerns to corporate about. Textbook cases of harassment, hostile work environment and discrimination. No consequences were ever handed down by corporate and in fact those of us who raised complaints were told that we were bringing the store morale down and are supposed to be setting the example.
Any work you do that is above and beyond will be unappreciated to your face, but then will be taken and used by corporate and then presented as if it was entirely their idea and effort.
