I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Shell in Sep 2011
Interview
A Shell representative was on my university's campus for recruiting, and wanted to meet the officers of an engineering club I was president of. After meeting him, I applied online. I was granted an interview the following week.
The interview consisted of an HR person writing down my answers to a long list of specific questions. These questions were pretty tough to answer, some of them tricky. The HR scribe paraphrased me, and at one point I asked this person to re-write part of my answer (they were writing something that I wasn't meaning to say).
I didn't expect to hear back, but was offered an internship pretty quickly.
