Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It's great to hear you enjoyed the friendly environment at Virgin Active and the bonus structure. Our Building Services teams work hard to keep our clubs operating safely and effectively for our members. At times this can require out of hours work. I will pass your comments around the long working hours back to our Building Services Director to consider for the future.

Pros

Free membership. Progression opportunities. You can meet some vibrant people. Top notch facilities.

Cons

A lot of the role, even heavily product based are orienting towards being operations based, giving less importance to the actual product and quality of the product. The company is always streamlining, so be open to plenty of change. Your experience in the company will rely heavily on the quality of your line manager. From the company strategy point of view, a trade off has been taken to pay lesser Than industry standard to generate higher profit. Given the brand and size of the company, it doesn't overtly affect the company per se, apart from creating a high employee churn. In management, be ready to work considerably more than your contracted hours if you want to do a half decent job and progress. There is a tribe culture in place, which has been cleverly implemented so all the hardship you face is glossed over and swept under the rug. Lots of politics, beauraucracy and red tape, so a great experience to learn from which will make you a robust manager.

Pros

I have a management position which is good for the CV. Also the team (not management) are really nice and vibrant. After or before work I always train (but not at Virgin)

Cons

Colleagues are awful. Really unprofessional and make life hard. At the end of the day you look out for yourself and that's what they do in a "team culture". Lied to about hours as I do more duty shifts then most people in my position. Management really have no clue.
