Not very people focuses anymore

Pros

Great staff incl club management and front facing.

Cons

Since the company sold to a SA company the focus seems to be financially focused and staff come last. Branson ethos has always to put staff first and customers will come and in turn shareholders will be if it. But lately it's been the opposite. I have been lucky to work for Virgin active for 6 years but I am now questioning staying any longer as too many changes. As a manager I can no longer authorise holidays and instead have to be sent to the regional Manager. All in all the company is heading in a direction that doesn't secure or retain the people.

Pros

Free membership for you and a friend to use at any virgin. You get to join tribe which gives you discounts on other virgin services e.g virgin experience days or virgin trains etc. You meet great like-minded people. If you actually like working there and they like you there are opportunities to progress.

Cons

No consistency. Some days the managers are laid back other days they are on everyone's case and micromanaging the staff. They get annoyed about silly things (due to their own inconsistencies) and then send petty emails to all the staff complaining. They focus on unnecessary extras for the members instead of focusing on the basics like keeping the changing rooms clean and making sure everything works, which is what members complain about. Some of the staff are lazy and don't get anything done and others get the blame for it. People come and go all the time because of the poor pay and the way things are run/the way they are treated.

Poor Company

Pros

Occasionally work with staff that are good fun and interested in fitness.

Cons

Where to begin? This company are full of promises, nothing to show for it. They take advantage of their employees and over work them. Will almost go as far as saying they are borderline corrupt. The company will do anything to get away with mispayments, or worse take money/sessions off of personal trainer on purpose just to increase their profits. Very manipulative management who don't pay for expenses with courses that are half way across the country. Management also don't take into consideration work/life balance and do anything they can to save the slightest bit of money even if it means the greatest of inconvenience to their employees. Overall the company is very sneaky and will ride the line just for the maximum profit output. They don't treat their employees with respect or take care of them responsibly or care about them, we are just a number to them. Have known for the company to swap GM's/Managers around different clubs and then shut one of the two clubs down with very little notice, in an attempt to get rid of unwanted employees.
