Pros

UNICEF has a great mandate, they do fantastic work implementing programs that are actually impactful. Acquired good knowledge and understanding of how the UN works and a lot of useful skills related to the development programs.

Cons

Job insecurity, instability. No compensation, benefits for consultants (aka non-staff), who carry out the work of staff. Poor management. Highly hierarchical and bureaucratic institution.

Working in international context with people from every corner of the world. Working on an amazing mandate that is ensuring and protecting the rights of every child.

Cons

A lot of external contracts providing no protection for employees rights. Not enough longevity of projects due to a high turnover. Little leadership across the organization
