Pros

Company values are clear and respectable Personal development is always in conversation Work life balance is good most of the time Benefits package is incredible - preventive care 100% covered Responsibilities given based on performance not age

Cons

Slow to adopt change in strategies that will push target to be the retail leader Resistance to devote resources to Target.com for e-commerce needs Feedback driven culture can be overwhelming Career development and path is clear but rigid within merchandising Company culture is passive-aggressive and not direct, yet conversations about direct topics are daily - makes in-person interactions awkward Overall Minnesota culture is very reserved, passive and high school esque - all of which is evident at Target

Pros

There are many opportunities to learn great business practices on the job that you can carry with you throughout your career. I've learned more about leadership, personnel development, and training in my time here that I've learned throughout most of my time in college. There are also many opportunities for advancement to mid-level management.

Cons

The opportunities for advancing beyond a sr. Team Leader are very slim. Most Executives and higher are external hires. This is good for the company in that it can bring in fresh ideas, but bad for morale since the chance of being a "lifer" and an executive leader or higher are low, even with a degree. The pay is not the worst, but it's less than competitive.

Pros

The company tends to attract amazing talent. More socially responsible than their competitors. Best compensation package I've found in retail. Opportunity to promote quickly due to high turn-over rates.

Cons

Work-Life-Balance is no longer a realistic or attainable goal. Hourly employees are treated as disposable. Turnover rates have steadily risen in the past year approaching 50%. In response to these figures, HQ lowered their expectations for retention. The acceptable turnover percentage was increased to within 5% of 45% to qualify for a "green" management score. Good performance is always rewarded with more work and no compensation. Team Leaders have steadily been taking on the responsibilities of executives yet are still expected to accomplish goals on an hourly basis. These positions should be salaried.
