Pros

I've worked at a lot of companies and I would say that Target's work environment is one of the best. Sure the culture is so strong, it's easy to parody but at the end of the day, it's a focus on team collaboration, developing leaders for tomorrow and respect for the individual. While retail is always hard work, i would say Target would rank higher than other retailers as far as work life balance and importance on family. Also it is a relatively flat organization at the top.

Cons

There is fast movement in the early part of your career but as you move up you do have to play the game a little more. Networking and "champions" play a huge part in your success in the higher ranks. Who knows you, who supports you. If you are a person that just delivers without tooting your own horn on what you did, then you might not get the credit or the perception you deserve. It's all about relationships and while there is clear focus on results, there are many examples of quick rises to the top without actual results because a person is championed or they have "it". But what's different than other large organizations?

Pros

You get the opportunity to work with and learn from amazing people. Your skill sets as a leader are stretched daily and the knowledge you gain is priceless. You're in a position where you must learn to manage a wide demographic and serve the same. You may think you're a great leader before, but be in a position where your team is watching every move you make and is constantly evaluating you while staying Target brand to serve the guest and you may not think of yourself so hot. But you have the support of your peers and your leaders to support you through it and ultimately you grow as an individual and an exec and you are recognized for this growth. Target is a company that is big on recognition and rewarding those who contribute to the team.

Cons

Sometimes there can be long days. But in all honesty the people and the relationships you build don't make work feel like work. You're in it together

Pros

Good pay, healthy work/life balance, good benefits.

Cons

Over my 11 year tenure the approach to promotion to Executive changed and closed the door to people who do not have a 4 year degree (regardless of field of study.) Promises made upon my hire were pushed aside for new innovations, created glass ceiling for me that I could not pass.
