      Pros

      On average the best quality people in Financial Services, specifically Investment Banking in South Africa. Highly competent leadership who act with integrity, honesty and the necessary wisdom and constraint. Culture of openness and respect towards employees. Incredible depth of talent across the Corporate and Investment Bank. Invests in people and provides numerous opportunities for learning and growth. Fair employer.

      Cons

      Generally doesn't pay well compared to the local and global market for Corporate and Investment Banking.

      Standard Bank: The only place to work for in the whole of Africa

      Pros

      The Culture is absolutely fantastic, the general staff and the managerial staff are friendly and always willing to lend a hand. Even when they themselves can't help ypu they will find someone who will.

      Cons

      The processes can be a bit slow, like actually receiving your bank cards or your medical aid cards, other then that its a fantastic place.

      Good growth in emerging markets

      Pros

      Excellent growth in Emerging markets- Top tier bank in Africa with strong growth in Brazil, Russia and Eastern Europe. Fun culture in a friendly enviroment. Not an hours culture, therefore more relaxed than the global Investment banks.

      Cons

      Average Pay and conservative management. In my experience bonuses do not compare to the global Investment banks. Find many middle staff in South Africa leave the bank due to limited growth prospects . Difficult for bank to compete in Europe and USA with the globaL investment banks. Still has a strong corporate banking culture and therefore not as agressive as the bulge bracket firms.
