Octopus Energy Response

Hello, Thank you for leaving us a review and sharing your experience at Octopus Energy. It's good to hear that there were some good points about working with us. I'm sorry that there were some things that you did not enjoy. With regards to reward/salary for our team, we've clearly outlined a pathway for increasing salary, most notably through skills academy which was revamped over the summer for greater clarity. Furthermore, we have and will continue to factor in inflation as we increase the salary for all of our team. We regularly review the local market and data suggests we are quickest employers in Leicester at increasing salary for our team and providing pathways to increasing it. I'm really sorry to hear that you left with a not so positive impression of Octopus. I know that we're not a perfect organisation, but my door is always open to hear about what we did not do as well as we could have done, and do better. I would love the opportunity to hear more about your experience to see whether there are some specific actions we can take to address these points. We work hard to make the working environment safe and supportive. We also do a lot of work within the leadership team to create an inclusive and welcoming culture so I'm concerned to hear about your experience. If you feel comfortable sharing some more detail on any of the points raised in your review, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Please drop me a line via email or LinkedIn and we can go from there. Best of luck in your next role. Kind regards Matt Pearson Head of Operations

Pros

- Wonderful colleagues who create a brilliant culture - Octopus Energy genuinely puts the wellbeing of their customers and staff at the heart of everything they do - Progression is not always linear meaning lots of opportunities for growth and Octopus always looks to promote from within - Super flexible when staff need time off, whether that's annual leave, late starts or early finishes

Cons

- Working in Operations can be very demanding at the moment (but extremely rewarding) due to the current nature of the energy industry - A lot of resilience required to be able to deal with increased amount of customers in difficult circumstances and the increased inbound contact this is causing

Pros

- Free food, drinks and beers on Friday 4pm - Relaxed work environment, I made few friends with my one and half month working at Octopus energy - Moderate work load for data entry role, if you are fast leaner and get a decent line manager, you should be able meet daily target easily - A good starting point for people who have no or little work experiences. As for me, I just graduated from university with no work experiences at all

Cons

- Below average pay, no bonus. For contract employee, you can get overtime pay by filling in extra working hours after 5pm or on weekends. However, there is no bonus for over achieve your daily target. - Direct line manager and other senior manager can be micro managing sometimes, but as well as you meet your target it's not a big issue. - The free foods and drinks are for you if you are into breads, instant ramen, instant coffee and fruits. ( kinda like a broke uni student diet) - The IT system, with my short working time at Octopus Energy, I have experienced multiple data system failure and major bugs. To be fair, few cases are more wider utility industrial results, but still - No career progression at all, It honestly saddened me as a new graduate seeing people who stayed well over years and doing far more complex tasks, yet somehow getting similar pay to mine. - Finally, the relaxed office environment. Yes it is very friendly, no dress codes and pets are welcome etc. However, be prepared to hear dog barks, encounter totally unprofessional and childish behaviours during working hours
