      Gives IT staffing firms a bad name

      Pros

      Same reasons you'd work with any staffing firm; Recruiter was encouraging while I was interviewing, but little did I know (see below). As with everywhere it's who you work with, and not everyone there was bad or a liar. The office staff, especially, is great, as was the account manager I saw the most.

      Cons

      I was new to field and naive, but recruiter lied about salary range and I was dramatically underpaid and recruiter rescinded full referral fee; Sr. mgmt. yelled at me(!) when I declined to take a vacation time for training they'd previously agreed to pay for (It's standard for the staffing firm to pay for your time and the place you're contracted at to pay the training fee); For an IT staffing firm their internal IT systems are slow and unresponsive, making time reporting (or doing anything in their system) an agony (small factor but still...).

      Pros

      Experience. It's just a good school of life. There is a lot of work to do, and you get to know smth new nearly every day. You work with people from Europe and Asia: China, Bangladesh, Hong-Kong, Holland, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Latvia. Thus you can practice your communicative skills.

      Cons

      Chaotic processes, tough management, huge load. Everyday work in the season is terrible. You can come at 7:30 a.m. and leave at just 10 or 11 p.m., but you won't be able to cope with all amount of work. Moreover, the office is rather small and people don't have enough personal space.

      Contractor Beware

      Pros

      As a former contractor working for them, I have no reason to recommend working for MODIS.

      Cons

      Their margins are high; for the position I was contracted out for it was almost 80%. They will promise you increases in wages and then not deliver. They messed up my Federal Tax withholding resulting in an extended period of time of my having to play "catch up". Toward the end of my contract, I found out that MODIS had reimbursed the client part of MODIS' fees while I had paid for a year's living expenses (in the client city where I was working) out of my own pocket. Also, when I advised my recruiter that I was not being paid my earned and due overtime because the time-reporting system at the client site was locked down at 40 hours per week in violation of Federal Wage & Hour Rules, MODIS did nothing.
