Pros

Reasonable work-life balance, good benefits, and the company weathers economic downturns well (no layoffs during the 2009 Recession or the 2020 Pandemic). The new CEO highly values diversity and allyship in the workplace, and all employees are required to take ally training held by the various Employee Resource Groups. The work is extremely fast paced, as any issues with the manufacturing line need to be fixed ASAP. I personally find that this makes the job interesting and fulfilling, but it does mean that the job quickly swings between relaxed and high-stress. Thankfully it is relaxed more often than not.

Cons

There is no hybrid Work From Home at this site for non-manufacturing job roles, despite good WFH performance during the Pandemic. This decision seemed to come from the executive level without feedback from engineering teams. The Manassas site focuses on legacy part types, meaning there aren't a lot of high-level engineering positions available for growth opportunities (no R&D). A few small complaints: The site looks and feels dated, with cubicle walls that have been there for at least 25 years. The old cafeteria was converted into more cleanroom space, meaning the current cafeteria is in a large trailer. The food on site isn't particularly good and costs a lot. There is a small gated outdoor patio to eat lunch on, but if you want to go outside for a walk to take a quick break from work, you need to exit and enter through security. Perhaps they could expand the gate around the building to enable access and more walking space.

Pros

Benefits are great. Micron has their own internal "university" to help their employees learn desirable skills, from programming and code, data and leadership to dealing with stress and mental health issues. They offer paid therapy through a third party for traumatic life events. The list goes on. The culture has stagnated some as they've injected more and more politics. I don't necessarily disagree with the stances taken, but like many have said on the internal message boards: "Can we please stick to making memory?" That said, the culture is still above average.

Cons

The sense of self and individuality is lost with such a large company. They try to prevent that, but I'm not sure there's much they can do. Also, global policies outrank the individual, so innovation at the local level is stifled. Micron is beholden to various groups that include the likes of Amazon, Walmart and other global Mega-corps. Their business decisions are obviously impacted by this. Although not always bad, they tend to favor the business without regard to the individual. One example would be Micron being forced to take a stance on a big event that happened without regard to the nuance and the feelings of individuals on both sides. Another is the pandering to certain groups, which has become in vogue for big business as of late. I'm all for equality, but don't pretend like it isn't about the moneys. Especially when leaves large swathes of your employees feeling left behind.
