Pros

Great facility! There are plenty of things to do with my clients. There are many opportunities for sales-minded personal trainers.

Cons

To get ahead as a trainer you must excel with revenue production. Actual training skills (and results for your clients) don't matter towards career advancement unless you can continue to close more sales. Trainers are expected to clean the exercise equipment daily without compensation and work fulltime shifts regardless of client load.

Pros

Casual work environment. Flexible schedule.

Cons

Bonuses and incentives are not distributed fairly. No structured compensation plan. Employees are not valued. Many family members report to one another. Huge egos.

Pros

Free gym membership, flexible scheduling, particularly if you are a personal trainer. You can pretty much make your own schedule if you are PT. I have also experienced very little micro-managing, at least as a manager.

Cons

Compensation is a joke. PT and sales works on 100 % commission, so we are practically forced, and often encouraged to mislead clients. For example, we are forced to sell metabolic testing (cardio and calorie points) when our equipment does not work, and management knows this. In addition, we offer an assessment called a Risk Point, where a phlebotomist comes in to draw blood. Seriously? We are telling clients to have their blood drawn at a gym. That's just crazy, not to mention unhygenic. I have no idea why LTF feels they need to do more than just be a good gym with good trainers. We are essentially forced to scam people, and if you don't scam clients, then you won't make a paycheck. It's all about the bottom line. When I first started working for the company in January 2008, it took 6 weeks before we got our first paychecks, due to an internal "glitch" in the payroll system. It has taken me over 4 months for my paid time off to be approved. What all this comes down to is that if you work for a department that works completely on commission, management doesn't care at all about making your job easier (approving your PTO, returning customer service calls, etc) because if it doesn't make them money, they don't do it.
