Pros

I worked for a competitor for 9 years before joining the great clips family. I know that the franchisee is what makes or breaks the salon. I was lucky enough to find a great one!

Cons

Not waxing, I feel like 65% of clients ask for it. I hate telling them we don't wax.

Pros

I absolutely love the system of great clips . I do believe they have a great foundation. There is room to move up in the company as well. Meeting new people everyday is a plus. Also paid training, that even the seasoned professional can learn from.

Cons

The pay isn't enough. Minimum wage for such a demanding atmosphere is a huge turn off! I could barely hire or keep staff with their beginning wages. This is a huge issue with the stylists in my area.

Pros

Immediate clientele, guaranteed hourly base pay, vacation time. Corporate is wonderful for support and advice to management. Company picnics are nice.

Cons

Pay is low when considering how hard stylists and managers actually work. If in management no real days off, phone calls all the time even on off days. Work on some holidays when other salons are closed which isn't fair to the employee. Work just about every single weekend if you're a full time employee, which it isn't fair that part time employees aren't expected to do the same. Sometimes they promote the wrong people. You get treated like any other retail worker which isn't fair because we spend tens of thousands of dollars in order on our education, so it's not fair to treat us like we are the same as retail employees you'd find at the mall; we invested time and money to join this industry and should be treated with respect and gratitude...we are not retail workers we are professionals. No health insurance or sick days! Long hours, sometimes you will work 10-14 days without a day off. Over worked and underpaid. Micromanagement is a nightmare.
