The workload recently went through the roof while the same high standard of install and customer care is expected.
Traveling times to and between jobs are based on no traffic and generally routing makes little sense with jobs overlapping other engineers' jobs.
Electric van charging and bybox visits are not taken into account (what about break times?).
Double standard when it comes to what is expected from their own engineers and contractors and as a result average job time don't reflect the reality of what is involved. 6x Octopus meter installs takes as long as 10x contractor meter installs, but we don't get any extra money. The lack of communication is also a concern, many of us are baffled by not hearing back with regards to the mentioned issues. These are being raised all the time.
Also, if you are planning on progressing into:
A, management, tough luck, they recruit from the outside mostly.
B, EV installer, good luck, you'll be getting an EV and couple of meters every day.
Many engineers are complaining about feeling close to burning out and that it also affects their mental health. Please read forums and feel free to get in touch with us engineers if you'd like to hear what it actually like at the moment to work for octopus.
It was a good company to work for and most of us hope that this is salvageable.
