Pros

Free gym membership, met some great people, opportunity to move up exists

Cons

Most of the reviews here are right on the money. LA Fitness is consistently ranked as one of the worst companies in the country to work for and it’s a shame because it doesn’t have to be. It could be a great company if it’s owners/CEO/corporate partners/shareholders concerned themselves a bit more with people and a bit less with padding their already very fat pockets. Biggest issues: -Lack of investment in their people. They ask a lot of their employees; sales and training managers and full time counselors work an insane amount of hours and are under a tremendous amount of pressure to produce. Operations staff are grossly underpaid and shoulder more than their fair share of the responsibility in running the club. All managers should be salaried, particularly because they work way more than their 40 hours and are constantly on call. You’re not eligible for benefits until you’ve been there for 12 months, which is just crazy, and they’re not very good. No 401K either, which is very telling about the life span they expect from their employees. No employee break area or back room, and no employee restroom. You have to go to the locker room with everyone else. It’s just not very employee-friendly. Also, there is a lack of training and growth is limited. You can move up but your individual talents are not appreciated. You can only move up through member services but if that’s not your bag, then you’re SOL. -Lack of investment in their facilities. At one time, LA Fitness clubs were considered state of the art. They have failed to keep up with technology and advancements in fitness. Most clubs still don’t have WiFi, they don’t have individual TV monitors on cardio equipment and in order to hear sound, you need an FM tuner. Who has one of those in 2018? Their app is terrible, the website is bare bones and their aerobics classes are wayyyyy outdated. They still have step aerobics classes. Step. Aerobics. Like, seriously, do they know what year it is? They charge enough for memberships to keep up with the latest trends in technology and fitness, and as the front line employees, we’re the ones that have to deal with the complaints about the lack of investment. All you can do is apologize and bubble it up but all feedback lands on deaf ears. This company is only concerned about making money. That comes at the cost of the happiness of their employees and the satisfaction of their members. No amount of money is enough compensation to deal with the daily frustration you will experience here. If you have any amount of management experience, do not take a position here. You’ll want to put your head through a wall after about 3 months. Keep it moving.

Pros

Free access to the gym?

Cons

Pressured/forced to come in early without pay. Overwhelming amount of responsibility. Told not to take 10 minute paid breaks. Threatened job security over small things. Continuously adding new responsibilities, tasks, requirements for minimum wage. Taking commission if a payment declines or cancelation within 2 months of earning commission, it is subtracted from your pay or future commission.
