Pros

Work-life balance. Able to work from home in the morning or remotely if necessary as long as you get your work done. That said, if you are in Consumer Group - expect to be online up to 1 am as being logged in continuously is part of the culture. Dell still has a start-up culture which makes it fun, however, it also makes it inefficient. Things change on a dime so it makes it easy to react to market pressures. Always in meetings, always challenged - never sit at your desk for too long. Must be omnipotent about entire processes of company. Most people are fun at heart.

Cons

People are extremely competitive and sometimes backstabbers hiding information. In meetings all day - do your work after 5 pm, or during meetings on laptop. Multi-tasking culture. Job responsibilities not well-defined - everyone owns everything, you own nothing specifically or have to fight to keep what you own yours. People think your job is their business. No boundaries. Must be a star in meetings - sometimes that means at the expense at others. If you are not a star - and are not extremely verbal - even if you have nothing to say - say something - otherwise you are moving out. Very competitive, sometimes catty.

Pros

The best thing in Dell is I can wear anything I want as long as it's smart casual. You can work from anywhere as long as you have internet connection. Dell has a great environment where most of the staff are from different races and background. In Dell we are like one big happy family.

Cons

Dell is a one big organization. To be able to insure your stay in Dell you must be a good politician, able to communicate and handle issue wisely. You will get lay off if you're not perform in your job.

Pros

The best reason is the customers. The product Dell makes are used all over the world by billions. Being in Product Test group, I contribute directly to the quality of product Dell makes. There is tremendous opportunity and latitude in my job to make an impact and the best satisfection is if I am successful in my job, it affects positively to the quality of the product seen by billions of customers all around the world.

Cons

Being a very large company with continuous thrust on product lines bureaucracy is the biggest hurdle in Dell. Process seems to slow down itself. Also many people say Dell lacks innovation in product, although in Business process Dell's innovative ideas were unprecedented. Most employees are in Dell for more than 10 to 15 years, making the average age of employee over 35. High average employee age triggers a static environment not suitable for innovation. However, my opinion is a lot is changing in Dell, and effect should be seen in a couple of years, and people finally are getting over the transition phase to move forward.
