A Great Company to work for

Pros

Burberry is the most interesting, forward thinking organisation that I have ever worked for. They value ideas and provide an environment that is corporate yet fluid and creative which is a hard balancing act. The management team that I work with are really inspiring and have helped me to realise my potential. I have had 3 promotions in the past 18 months which really reflects the pace of change here. Angela Ahrendts and Christopher Bailey are truly inspiring and very approachable. There is a clear vision and strategy which is very refreshing compared to other organisations that I have worked for. The brand is really gaining momentum even though we have had very challenging market conditions and this is a testament to the hard work, dedication and joy that people feel about working here.

Cons

Due to the rapid expansion of the business in the past 3 years and the changes to most ways of working in all departments, there is often little time to reflect on completed projects as we are always moving onto the next one. There needs to be a bit more of a celebration of success. If you don't like change, ambiguity and a seriously fast paced environment then I am afraid that Burberry is not for you!

Pros

The corporate office in New York is an entrepreneurial environment where one is given a great deal of responsibility across many aspects of the business. It is a high fashion brand with great brand visibility and recognition in the retail industry. Retail store expansion is rapid in emerging markets including Asia, Eastern Europe and N. America.

Cons

There is very little opportunity for vertical growth within a department, lateral movement between departments or promotion within the company unless one is hired in at a senior management level. Don't expect promotions until a year or more over-due. There is a culture of secrecy which tends to perpetuate itself amongst all offices and departments.
