I applied in-person. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Target in Jun 2008
Interview
I applied in person by picking up a form from the store and then returned it once I completed it. If I remember correctly, I think I was asked for an interview immediately afterward, which completely caught me off guard. I agreed, not knowing what to think. I thought it was just going to be a couple easy questions, not the actual interview. I was wrong. I sat down in a back room, and the person fired away with questions. It was a lot of behavioral interview questions like “Tell me about a time when...” and since I was not prepared, the interview went horribly. I would recommend being prepared with several stories to demonstrate leadership and other desirable characteristics for the basic behavioral questions.

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Target in Sep 2009
Interview
After applying online I was called within a week to schedule an interview. The interview is a two part process. Your first interview is with a member of middle management. After the interview that person discusses you with the next interviewer, who will be one of the 3 people in charge of the store. If the first interview went well, one of the senoir management will interview you. If not, you will be done. The second interviewer asks all the same questions as the first interviewer, and if they like you, they will over you the job (conditional on a drug test) on the spot.
