The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Dec 2010
Interview
Interview process was consistent with what others had mentioned. 90% situational questions, very little questions about work history and zero questions about what the job would entail. I interviewed with 4 people, none of which was the hiring manager (I think).
The one question to ask, if it's important to you, is work-life balance. Amazon.com has a reputation for expecting their employees to work nights, weekends, whatever it takes to do the job. Be sure to ask this question. I asked the question and received a very diplomatic answer from all 4 interviewers, none of whom said that Amazon.com works hard to ensure all employees achieve work-life balance. Not a good sign.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Each question was a "What would you do in this situation?" question. They aren't out to "get you", they only want to know your thought process.

Interview
Interview process was a bit long a drawn out. Three phone screens and an HR call over 2 weeks, followed by a day on campus interviewing. The in-person interviews were mostly 1:1 45 minutes discussions with a "round robin" interview at the end where there was a panel of 3 (including hiring manager) conducting the final interview.
1:1 interviews consisted of a random sampling of resume walks, case interviews, and personality/leadership type questions.
most frequent question was the resume walk with focus on specific experiences in your career.
Case questions were very open ended and had the majority had something related to what the business group was doing. I was asked about vendor management, supply chain, and some financial questions (ROI, Break even, Margin, etc).
The favorite tactic is asking the vague case question and then following your answer with "what else would you do." Eventually you are supposed to draw the line, but it's difficult sometimes to gauge when.

Interview
I was referred by an employee for a couple of positions at Amazon. I had a telephonic interview within a week. It last for an hour ( a few minutes longer). It was a combination of experience and small case/scenario type questions. It was a fairly challenging interview. The interview was professional and to the point. However, I was disappointed by the fact that neither the HR nor the hiring manager followed up with me after the interview updating me of the status. After following up from my side, I was asked for another telephonic round interview. It was basically similar in nature. However, no follow-up afterward. I was disappointed by the unprofessional behavior Amazon showcase by not contacting me or replying to my email/call to HR. I was never told the status of my second round interview. And I had to assume they selected someone else.
