What should you do in your 20s for a better future
I've read that the highest number of jobs get posted in Jan-Feb, followed by Sep-Oct. Jun-Aug is the second slowest period, followed by Nov-Dec as the slowest. Sure feels like it to me! You seeing the slowdown, too? Hang in there...
Does anyone draw a complete blank at interviews? From the time they say "So tell me about yourself" I go into fight or flight mode. It as if they're asking me about someone else's life. They say don't try to memorize your answers, but I have no other choice. I sturdy all these stories and intro's about myself and still can't remember. I don't know what to do. I have had at least 4 interviews and at each one I rambled and didn't get the job.
Have a second interview Thursday. Definitely not my first rodeo but the longer I go unemployed, the less confident I feel. That being said this company is specifically going to use the STAR interviewing Style. I've done my research on the history of the company, etc but I am finding it so difficult to memorize my answers in the STAR format, I'm going to have to use my notes. Tell me I'm not the only one struggling w/this 🙏🏻
If you are having an in-person interview, you should arrive early. This is common sense. Then, would it be the same if you're having a Zoom interview? I always debate internally about whether I should join earlier or not. The first ensures that everything is working (but I'd hope not to catch the interviewers too early). What's the best approach?
I was laid off a month ago and I have startef studying for cisco certifications along with applying. But When I see job descriptions and number of people applied for a job it scares me. AI has made the process complecated I believe.... I have ISP tier3 experience but today's job market wants all together. Sec,cloud, routing, switching, wireless, automation, loadbalance, vpn, design, implement, trouble shoot.......
Learn a trade that can’t be replaced by AI - electrician, plumbing, mechanic, engineering, welding, mortuary science…
Most in their 20s should be able to unless disabled. I guess my other advice would be to invest in life insurance with cash value.
Save, learn a trade that can’t be replaced by AI like plumbing, electrical… invest in secondary income like real estate… laundry mats, storage units…farm ground
Probably move to a country that is NOT the USA because people here are morons.
Been overseas, way worse elsewhere
Invest in your retirement now. Try to add as much as you can every year to your 401k and IRA. Do Roth options if you can. Do not go into debt.
High yield savings
Definitely invest all my beer money in mutual funds. Then pay attention in school. If I remembered even 25% of what the taught I might be further ahead.
Chose IT when I enlisted. Would be further along and employed.
start your electrical apprenticeship, ask at your local IBEW hall.
