Good people, poor career opportunities
Pros
- Vodafone attracts great talent. Caliber of people is high. Many could easily do the job one grade above - Flexible environment. Support people to work from home, use teleconference etc - Generally well respected externally, vendors, industry people, recruiters
Cons
- External promotion bias. While hiring the best external candidate is great for the hiring manager, it does little for an overall sense of career opportunities available, despite great scale - Insist on a complex and conflicted matrix structure between the Group and the Opcos. Too much consulting and who has the 'D' is unclear in many cases - Slow, bureaucratic. Encourage specialists to remain in functions, difficult to move across functions.
