Pros

ThoughtWorks is probably one of the best medium/large tech consultancies and is considered a premium consultancy. It has some very smart people who are leaders in the software industry. They do a pretty good job hiring good people that are not just smart but enjoyable to work with. It is a rather flat organization which is good for people that are more self-reliant and able to hustle for recognition and responsibility. It has an open culture and most people feel free to speak up to anyone. People at TW really care about the software they are delivering. They see it as reflection of themselves and something to take pride in. If you hire a team of them, they'll probably end up caring about your project more than you do and work harder at it. ThoughtWorks prioritizes pairing when delivering. There are many good reasons to pair but from the point of view of the employee, the biggest benefit is probably that it is the fastest way to learn to become a better developer. The people you pair with with fix many of your bad habits and teach you new things, even if they are not more senior. But this is particularly helpful for more junior people. TW is a great place to start your career and I'd recommend it most highly for people right out of college.

Cons

Every company has a mythos that they tell themselves about what they are and where they came from. ThoughtWorks is no different. And in reality no company really lives up to it. Same here. No, we are not a socialist company and never were. No, social justice isn't just as important as making money. No, we aren't all elite technologists, standing head and shoulders above everyone else. But these things have a big enough grain of truth to matter. We're not a perfect company but are far better than most. TW was a much smaller company when I started and a better reflection of its mythos than today. We're becoming a more regular company everyday especially since we are now owned by private equity. That event hasn't led to any night and day changes. You need a longer baseline to notice the changes and it's not all due to that sale, nor are all the changes bad ones. The culture is a very politically liberal one, thought that probably isn't much different than most tech companies. If you are more moderate or even conservative, you might feel a bit out of place but won't feel threatened. Politics doesn't really enter your day job so don't worry about it. One limitation of ThoughtWorks might be that most people grow out of it. Once you're a lead or principal consultant, you might feel there is no natural place to go next. You might find there are better growth opportunities elsewhere and there probably are. It's pretty clear that TW will keep heading in the direction of becoming a more regular company just like all of them that end up in the laps of Wall Street. That might be a less inspiring reality for some people. Work life balance is OK. Now, during COVID, it's great because we all work from home. But before COVID, it wasn't as good. Travel which can be as much as 4 days/week takes a toll. Much of the travel seemed more like force of habit than actually useful. Hopefully, this pandemic will lead to lasting changes with less travel. Salaries are competitive but the best people are probably underpaid.

Pros

If you are looking for career growth by gaining more titles, avoiding hard problems, getting more recognition by stepping on hard working peers and possibly working along side a handful of super smart individuals; this may well be a culture fit.

Cons

As a engineer at heart, part of the ones who charge first to roll up their sleeves and wade through mud and fire to solve real world problems; if you are thinking that TW is a platform for you to excel, be part of a great team and help solve world problems, you are wrong, this is not the place for you. The once great pioneer, pinnacle of technology freedom, and excellence has fallen from grace, cemented by the fact that the founder and quite some great engineers left not so long ago to fight for a greater causes. What's left spreads with multi level class system, seniority, pride, little to no respect for general peers and a focus on being a money making machine. There are still a handful of tough great people at TW who try drive hard to help peers, but unfortunately mixed in with a growing number of toxic individuals introduced into the system who are able to hide under the radar and stay. They are the ones who have imposter syndrome, not able or dare to ask honest straight questions and cause more misinformation by rumours. Doing good for greater cause, the society and making the world better place, now happens at many other smaller companies.

Thank you for your review. While it’s not great to see folks who have left with a more negative view of ThoughtWorks, it’s good for us to hear about your experience and recommendations for the future. It’s a fine balance of satisfying everyone. I can appreciate your desire to focus on core engineering skills as part of your career growth. There are others who look to take on more leadership responsibilities as a part of their career growth. Our aim is to look to provide the balance of both. In recent years we have significantly shifted our investment in building capabilities. We’ve not always got it right, but each year we reflect on what went well and did not go well, then we look at continually improving. We have a new structure focused on more interesting technologies, capabilities and building specialist skills. We have a big investment into these growth areas in the coming years. I hope this will help to improve the experience of your peers and new joiners who are looking for the learning opportunities - Renee Hawkins, Head of Professional Services, UK

Pros

As such no Pros just that only very few people are good.

Cons

1. Management do a lot of favouritism 2. If they hire you saying that they are hiring for automation taking all your rounds in automation and then they put you into manual testing project. 3. There is no proper KT and lot of EGO 4. Everyone's want to do showoff no work just shouting around and showing off. 5. Everyone wants to manage and play a blame game. 6. Lot of Blame game is played here. 7. They don't have many projects so no use of going to another project. 8. I have worked in more than 2 organization this was my worst experience of all IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER OFFER PLEASE MOVE AHEAD WITH THAT DON'T EVER JOIN THOUGHTWORKS.

Thank you for your honest feedback. This sounds like a really frustrating experience. I am working with the India leadership team to gather reviews such as yours and address the pain points and challenges our employees face. I'm sorry you didn't have a more positive experience working here, but we appreciate the honest feedback. Feedback is what allows our culture to grow and improve. And we are committed to frank and open conversations (which at times can be difficult to hear) that are important in helping us to create an environment where all ThoughtWorkers can thrive. If you are happy to do so, I'd like to personally connect. Please feel free to reach out to me on anug@thoughtworks.com. Wishing you the best, Anu
