Pros

Lots of sharp people at Target. Very competitive environment encourages people to work their very hardest. Have MBA Program that will pay ALL of your tuition.

Cons

There were many promises made to me about interviewing for the next level position. Although I w didn't make it in the first try, I was promised another shot in 2 months. When that time came around, I was told I couldn't interview again. I was told to interview for a few other lower level positions, that were not of any interest to me. Finally, I made the decision to leave when my yearly review was unfairly weighted to 1 month of weak performance over 11 months of strong performance

Pros

The pay is very good starting salary in comparison to other jobs fresh out of college. Target does develop you as a leader, and I believe I have grown in the time I have been there. If you work hard there is a lot of room for advancement, but only after 18-24 months.

Cons

If your store has opportunities expect to be working more of a 60 hour work week. Lots of college grads are picked up by Target but very few last. Target slaves their Executives because they do not give enough hourly payroll to run the business well. Leadership is inconsistent and the messages keep changing. In the end, it is good money, but there is no work-life-balance.

Pros

Overall I have had great direct managers at Target who have supported my advancement. The headquarters buildings are nice and conveniently located. There is opportunity to advance - as long as you can manage through the political environment. There are lots of opportunities to take lateral moves to other areas.

Cons

Many places in headquarters are very political and people spend way to much time managing egos. The culture doesn't encourage or reward honest and open discussion and idea sharing. There are two many "pre-meetings" to agree on "messages" before meeting with other areas. This takes time away from actually doing the work that drives results.
