Pros

You can take responsibility early on and make a swift career progression until you hit a certain ceiling that has been established for decades. The company places high importance on your attitude, more so than your skills, as the general belief is that everything you need to learn in order to do a good job (or have a successful career) can be learned within the organization. Middle management is very approachable. International careers are open to anyone who is interested and willing to step out of their comfort zone. In some positions, you have the chance to become a franchise partner while remaining employed at the company, offering the easiest way to start your own business. The company is very forgiving. If you make a mistake, you will rarely face serious consequences.

Cons

Tunnel vision and a lack of inspiration are problematic. The business model, which follows full vertical integration, turns the company into a cash cow, obscuring the very poor quality of some individuals in middle and upper management. Very junior employees at the very start of their career will find good mentors, but after 1-2 years, top potentials will realize that there's nothing more to gain from them. One reason is the tunnel vision that focuses solely on internal growth (great for internal career progression, of course) and completely excludes external hirings for management positions. The other reason is the lack of investment in external training and development. These two things combined create a very dangerous combination. That's why I foresee the company failing in the long run (even if at the moment this seems impossible due to the strong profitability and expansion).

Pros

-I had the luck to have a great team. I know it is not the case for everyone in this company as I have covered other stores and met other employees. -50% off for Calzedonia and intimissimi -Free uniform (although some of them are quite ugly or revealing)

Cons

-The upper management should have better organisation. My manager is always clearly exhausted of the quantity of work and it affects everyone on the team. -the store itself has an awful layout as the stockroom is on the fifth floor. Most days are spent going up and down to get more stock on the sales floor. -the constant staff turnover is extremely draining. having to train everyone new and deal with their mistakes is very taxing. The turnover is in my opinion caused by not good enough pay and a very disorganised company overall. -I am quite unlucky to have started in this particular store of Calzedonia in London as it is the busiest of all of them. -If you are working full time, say goodbye to having a good work/life balance. with the commute and the one hour break in your 8 hour shift, you're back home late and too tired to do anything. The rota is different every week so there is no semblance of routine whatsoever. In the end, I understand that most people working in retail is clearly just a temporary job for them and so did I thought for myself in the beginning. And with that mindset, most people will not care about the job being well done, so then you find yourself picking up the slack everyone else left. As key holder, you have quite a lot of responsibilities that you eventually learn on the job. But you'll find some people resting on you for most of the outcome of the day. I reckon most of this is true for most companies who are in the retail sector, good luck for everyone out there who is working retail.
