Pros

Good benefits and 401K by comparison of what is available in todays market. Some travel and promo perks. Industry recognition, globally! Some promotion opportunities if you are social at the expense of family, and in right circles/cliques.

Cons

Real leadership, almost non-existent. A lot of talk about taking risks and listening to market/consumers but failure to apply it to a business plan. Too many meetings and buy offs from non-contributors to product. Constant justification and battles for ideas that are not aligned to an already existing industry trend. A lot of talk about innovation, but the execution of said innovation comes down to the margins for it. Talkers get ahead of do-ers. Management, Seniors and Directors grow exponentially, while the product creation teams remain the same.

Pros

Great culture. Wear what you want, flex schedule, great perks. World Headquarters is an absolutely amazing place to work. Very laid back attitude but can be very intense!

Cons

Because its such a great company with great benefits and perks people rarely leave which mean very little opportunity for growth. Salaries at mid level aren't that great but if you love shoes then some say it makes up for it.

Great Employees, Incompetent Leaders

Pros

All the non-work parts of "working" at Nike are great! Flexible hours, beautiful campus, great workout facilities, lots of opportunity for social interaction (e.g. happy hours, sports teams, on-campus events, volunteer days). Most of the people that work there are passionate and competent.

Cons

Management is pathetic. When I was promoted to a management role (without any consideration for my people management skills), I received zero training and support from HR or my own supervisor. I was allowed/forced to wallow and fail. I think I could be a better manager with more focused and dedicated development and support. My experience must be typical because every manager I had at Nike (6 in 6 years) was a horrible and incompetent leader. However, the blame is with HR and the corporate leadership to allow lousy managers to be retained and even promoted.
