Pros

The spirit of entrprenuership is all pervasive, it is a core competecy that is encouraged and good ideas can come from anywhere. You will be given every tool/form of support needed to excel at your job. Innovation in all areas of the company is encouraged. The fitness centers are world class! Nike lives for sport. A company not afraid to go with its gut, beleives in doing the right thing, and knows its consumer better than the competition. 4.5 day work weeks during the summer!

Cons

Nike will seek your saturation point. Work life balance becomes difficult to manage. Crony-ism exists. Not much diversity in senior leadership. Nike's a titanic sized effort that makes mid-level decisions democractically. The result is a need for consensus before action, potentially resulting in slow reaction times or indecision.

Pros

Nike is a very forward thinking company. They try to do the right thing.

Cons

Despite their statements on "Pay for Performance", In my role as a manager, I was unable to adequately reward my direct reports for a job well done. It always felt like the company was growing at the executive level, but when it came down to hiring people to actually do the work, there was never any resources made available. There are so many layers of red tape that it is difficult to get anything done without an act of congress. When people would step-up and take initiative, they would be rewarded with little more than a pat on the back. When it came to Bonuses or Milestone Awards, those where give to those higher up the food chain. Offsite meetings were planned for upper management in tropical locations while travel requests by non-managers for relevant trade seminars were rejected.

Pros

1st class organization that is a leader in the athletic industry. Have the opportunity to meet some great people including the best athletes from all over the world. It's easy to take pride in the products you are manufacturing and selling. Discounted and free items and the free health clubs.

Cons

With so many employees, it makes it very difficult to get promoted. There are several large offices to compete with when looking for a promotion. Nike doesn't have to pay top dollar for employees because so many people will take less money to work for a proven leader in the industry.
