Pros

I honestly can’t think of any at this point.

Cons

-Disorganised - first placement didn’t even know I was due to work there or who I was. - some trainees get used to plug the gap and do the work health services don’t have time for, rather than focusing on development. - the education side is disorganised and the tutors do not agree on what constitutes good marks. -No job at the end with very little support to find one. I really regret doing this scheme, don’t let the guardian post fool you. It’s not worth it.

Pros

Fantastic support network, as well as developmental opportunities. The scheme opens up a lot of doors and gives good opportunities post scheme. Also get to do interest things that you wouldn't other get a chance to do as a manager, such as have a day out in the ambulances or in surgery.

Cons

Lengthy processes, sometimes lack of organisation. Educational component is demanding, if one were to complete the recommended hours they would be doing a 67.5 hour week (37.5 hours day job, 30 hours educational components).

Pros

Salary is decent and hours are very low compared to other graduate jobs. The other graduates are a lovely group of people also.

Cons

Started off on the Graduate Scheme and the placement was not aware I was joining, and since then I have had very little work and no job title/job description. The work I do get is very much just whatever can be found for me to do, so I have not developed in the time since joining the scheme. Unfortunately, this is faced by many on the graduate scheme, who have to push to get work for the majority of their placements with very limited support. Despite raising concerns to the graduate scheme you are told that it is your leadership that is the issue and that they cannot move you placements due to financial reasons. This also goes for any bullying/intimidation issues, you are told as a 'leader' you need to deal with it. This doesn't seem to be an issue solely faced by me, the attrition rate on the Graduate Scheme is significantly higher than applicants realise. The graduate scheme has incredibly good marketing, however, once you are accepted and start the graduate scheme the experience is entirely dependent on whether the Trust are experienced with graduates. If not, you are left out to dry. I hugely regret choosing to do this graduate scheme and do not fall for the marketing.
