Pros

It gave me a new part of retail management to explore and opened doors for possible new career opportunities with other optical companies should I choose to leave. The harshness of the lack of training as a new general manager has actually forced to teach me everything about optics whether I wanted to know or not!

Cons

To be successful in this industry, your IQ needs to be over a certain number. Knowing that, upper management still treats you like you are riding the short bus to school. They way they speak to you and treat you is demeaning and I have to be forced to put on a brave face for my staff so that I can spare them the pressure and headaches I am receiving. They have cut out middle management on a store level which forces me to work more without getting compensated, spent so much money rolling out a training last year that they did away with this year but they treat me like garbage if I order too many supplies, hire inadequate RDO's that could care less about optics and quality, hire a VP that came from a major company that went bankrupt... the list goes on. Decisions on a corporate are inconsistent. Whoever is in a room making these decisions for us as a company must have Attention Deficit Disorder or suffer from halucinations.

Pros

They will reimburse you for your training

Cons

Your best is NEVER good enough. Constantly raising sales goals ( yes customers we have sales goals) to amounts that can never be reached unless you push merchandise and un-needed add on to the customer. When we adapt to new goals and ways of doing things BOOM it changes again....

Pros

Decent benefits package: 401K, pension, medical for full time associates.

Cons

Poor upper managment. They hire executives/regional managers from outside the company that do not even have basic optical knowledge! Very apparent that upper management are just puppets of THEIR bosses. Very focused on sales and numbers vs associate satisfaction. Don't they know that happy associates = better results? We do not get credit when the store is doing well, but are beaten down when we are not making our goal. The summit we went to early this year was littered with false promises: More money in training (they just cut our payroll), getting feedback from associates (never done), better pay (they are eliminating middle management.) It becomes very stressful when the regional department comes to visit. They come in for a few hours, and nit pick the store to death, never satisfied with our "behaviors." Also there is a lot of turnover in the company; its a passive-agressive statement to the company, but they see it as they were not "brand right" to begin with vs. the company is doing something wrong.
