Pros

Great worklife balance, work ends when it should and doesn't go into the weekend Cutting edge green tech Sector is still at the bottom of the bell curve, still loads more to do.

Cons

- Product isn't well formed, lots of sticking plasters over cracks. - Career progression is non existent, how or why people get promoted is not clear. No idea how I could get a promotion, or why some are and i'm not. - Pay is poor, actively told not to discuss it. Maybe 20% below market. - Leads/managers would struggle to get hired in similar roles elsewhere. Handed positions without due process and lack skills to do it effectively. - Focus on the product not just growth at all costs.

Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. It’s great to hear that you appreciate the work-life balance at Kraken and that you’re excited about the opportunities in the green tech space—there’s certainly a lot still to come! We really value your feedback on the areas where we can improve. We know that career progression and clarity around promotions are crucial, and the capability team have been actively working to make this process more transparent. On your comments about management support, we’ve been looking at how we can better equip our leads and managers with the time, tools, and training they need to succeed in their roles - a great example of this is the leadership development programme. Thank you for your feedback regarding competitiveness - re salaries. We believe that Kraken pays fairly when you start with us, by fair we mean you could get paid more for the same role elsewhere, but you could also be paid less. We don’t compete on salaries, because paying at the top end of salaries does not help us on our mission to offer cheaper, fair, sustainable power to the masses whilst looking after the most vulnerable. If you’d like to discuss your experiences or share more details, please feel free to reach out to me directly, if you have any suggestions that you think could help, we would love to here these too - you can either reach out to me directly or use the capability channels if you feel comfortable doing so. Thanks again for your contribution and feedback! Olivia Roberts olivia.roberts@kraken.tech

Pros

Rapid growth phase allows for lots of opportunities. Engineers have a lot of autonomy and freedom in their work. Work-life balance is pretty good, depending on your location and circumstances. Although, unlimited PTO is really a scam IMO.

Cons

Transparency around salary is a taboo and looked down upon, which makes for a very frustrating experience when dealing with salary discussions. Clear lack in organization from the leadership level that trickles down. Rapid growth is exposing a lot of growing pains and issues with scaling. Cross team collaboration/communication is awful which causes delays, misunderstandings, difficult work experiences, etc. Middle management generally lacks experience and understanding in healthy team leadership skills. The entire tech department generally feels immature.

Pros

- relative idipendence at an IC level - hyper growth - interesting challenges and products - one of the few remaining bastions of remote work

Cons

- As others pointed out, the original culture is dying as quickly as the company is going full corpo - Senior Leadership (and some middle managers) becoming more and more detached about what it takes to achieve desired goals - Incredible imbalance between teams - Lack of proper HR - Lack of visibility on salary bands - Pushing AI for the sake of using AI
