Pros

There are plenty of opportunities to work on cutting edge chip projects if you are a hardware engineer. If you are a software person, there are fewer opportunities.

Cons

Incompetent and even sometimes unethical management. A seriously bloated management structure. A very poor track record of successful software development.

Pros

1. The name recognition is valuable on your resume. The name alone causes a fair amount of respect when speaking to potential employers. 2. Great if you have a family. The work load is very predictable and job security is very high. 3. Training - they spend a great deal of time showing you how products are made and how that impacts your role. 4. Pay - they are in most cases very competitive at the onset of your employment. 5. Benefits - excellent medical, dental, vision programs. 6. Other compensation - Share buyback, employee bonus, and other incentives add considerably to your compensation.

Cons

1. Slow decision making - You complete your analysis in a matter of days and spend months convincing people that you are right and changes should be made. 2. Sinking ship syndrome - Current negative personnel growth means all the good people are leaving and all the schmo's are sticking around. 3. Narrow scope - you will become very proficient at an incredibly narrow portion of the business. These skills are frequently hard to transition into other industries. 4. Management - Direct managers in my experience had little skill in managing advanced employees.
