Pros

If you're driven to cut hair, this is the place for you! I've been with the same organization for over 15 years, if you're looking for a salon to grow roots in. If you take pride in your talent, Great Clips is also for you. You don't need to "fill your books", or even "sell" yourself. Great Clips does all your marketing and advertising. You show up on time, work your shift, and produce quality haircuts, Great Clips will compensate you with great pay, incentives and bonuses. There is on-going technical training and retail knowledge (which are paid training). The teamwork at Great Clips is amazing, also. Whether you're a beginner in the hair design field or a veteran with many years of experience, Great Clips is for you.

Cons

After 15 years with Great Clips, there are no cons.

Since each salon is independently owned and operated, the best person to address your feedback would be the franchisee. If you would like, you can email jeanne@greatclips.com with the salon location where you were employed and details. We will forward it to the franchisee for you. Thank you.

Not worth it

Pros

Coworkers, paid vacation and paid holidays which are both hard to find in salons.

Cons

No work life balance at all. They are always short staffed so if you are a full time employee you will be scheduled 6 days each week, with shifts as long as 12 hours regularly. Working that load you are still only get one lunch break, and are rushed through it. You also will be working every Saturday and Sunday. No health insurance. They hire any warm body and keep them, whether they can cut hair or not. Then you ended having to fix other people’s haircuts on unhappy customers, causing you to miss out on tips. They let some people get away with anything and everything, and pay those people the same as the employees that follow the rules and work hard. No pay raises higher than 25 cents. If you’re full time it is common to work 8 days or more in a row without 1 day off. All of this to make the same amount of money or less than a cashier at a grocery store is not worth it, especially considering I paid 20k for cosmetology school to become a licensed professional.
