Fun company culture. Nice people. The UL campus has good amenities. The people I worked with were smart and good collaborators.
Cons
The labs are dated and kind of drafty and cold. They have an old-school PTO policy that could be better, such as the more progressive FTO policies that more modern and younger companies have.
UL Solutions Response

We’re glad you liked the amenities, collaborative culture and the people at UL Solutions. We’re in the process of renovating and modernizing some of our locations. Since we have over 40 global locations, not all of them can be renovated simultaneously. In the US we offer generous sick time (9 days) and vacation time including 3 floating holidays, and 2 days of paid time to volunteer. Thanks for sharing your feedback.
The work is interesting. Some decent travel is available if desired. If you work hard and set yourself apart from others you can earn a promotion.
Cons
It’s all about who you know. All responsibilities fall on Engineering. Engineering does much more than “engineer” and spend too much time on stuff that admin staff “should be able” to do. When something needs to change the usual solution is to have Engineers be responsible for it because many non-engineers can’t handle mediocre tasks.
