Pros

As an engineer at UL, you have to be ready for a fast-paced environment. You're going to get a lot of individual projects that are entirely reliant on you. Most of them are fairly easy and you will have a lot of support from other engineers and people around you. You will get opportunities to work with many companies, and working at UL looks great on a resume. Even if you don't plan on staying long term, this is a great career builder and will give you valuable experience. Massive pros include hybrid work, laid back work environment, and great people.

Cons

Too many managers. Feels like there's about 2 managers to every 1 engineer. Most of the managers do nothing or have vague job titles. New systems are always being integrated and make it harder for engineers to do their jobs. Also, the CEO is out of touch with employees and nobody has any idea what her goal is for the company, or what any of the business buzzwords mean. Engineers are constantly being pushed to bring in more money. Turnover rate is very high and most engineers do not last longer than 5 years because they seek better pay and a more stable career path.

Pros

Strong brand reputation and credibility in the marketplace. Excellent opportunity to gain experience in sales, compliance, testing, certification, and regulatory industries. Friendly, knowledgeable, and collaborative colleagues who are willing to help each other succeed. Good work-life balance compared to many sales organizations. Stable business with diverse industries and customers. Professional development opportunities and exposure to complex customer challenges.

Cons

Typical large-company bureaucracy can slow decision-making and execution. Internal processes and approvals may require patience and persistence. Organizational complexity can sometimes create challenges when navigating cross-functional initiatives. Career progression may occasionally depend on understanding and adapting to corporate dynamics.
