Pros

- Work/life balance is decent depending on the roll. - Amount of positions and departments creates opportunities to move around. - Vacation days on par with other large companies. - Up to nine sick days per calendar year. - 401k match is good. - Health insurance is good. - Beautiful campus. - Great history and mission.

Cons

- Pay. This is by far the biggest gripe in a laboratory position. UL claims they offer competitive pay, but if that were the case, the turnover wouldn't be so high. - Promotions are few and far between. - Bonuses were reduced for the people who could use it most. Executives tried to pass a new pay mix as a great thing, but a simple excel spreadsheet proves this idea falls flat on its face, and frankly, it's insulting. - Top heavy: Manager on top of manager. - Too many tenured engineers are useless and not held accountable. - No clear direction. Ask 20 people what the new strategy is, and you will get 20 different answers.

Pros

Strong brand reputation and credibility in the marketplace. Excellent opportunity to gain experience in sales, compliance, testing, certification, and regulatory industries. Friendly, knowledgeable, and collaborative colleagues who are willing to help each other succeed. Good work-life balance compared to many sales organizations. Stable business with diverse industries and customers. Professional development opportunities and exposure to complex customer challenges.

Typical large-company bureaucracy can slow decision-making and execution. Internal processes and approvals may require patience and persistence. Organizational complexity can sometimes create challenges when navigating cross-functional initiatives. Career progression may occasionally depend on understanding and adapting to corporate dynamics.
